Katie Taylor is preparing to sign off her stellar career against unbeaten Flora Pili at a sold-out Croke Park next month. The Bray native will become undisputed world champion for a third time if she gets the better of her French foe.
It’s more than year since we last saw Taylor in action when she dished out a third beating to Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in New York. She was prepared to hang up her gloves, but has jumped at the chance to fight at Croker, which last hosted a boxing match in 1972 when Muhammad Ali was victorious against Al Lewis.
In addition to the iconic setting, she is putting her IBF, WBA and WBO titles on the line. A victory would also see her get her hands on the vacant WBC belt.
Pili is no afterthought, though, as the 29-year-old has won all 12 of her bouts to date. “I have a real threat in front of me, someone who’s going to try and ruin the night for me,” Taylor said. “I’m prepared for that.”
