The second batch of 2pm Premier League Sunday clashes probably won’t decide much in the grand scheme of things. But there’s no doubt that Leeds and Brentford earned a lot of plaudits on the opening weekend, and both will be hoping to make it two wins from two. Brentford have never managed this in a Premier League season, while you’d have to go back to 2002 to find the last time Leeds did.

There’s also action at the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland fans will be eager to see the Black Cats get off the mark after their opening day loss to Ipswich, with no shortage of cynics expecting a sophomore slump from Regis Le Bris’ men after a fantastic 2025/26. Opponents Fulham might have lost 3-2 in their opener, but they gave Chelsea a decent game, and won’t prove easy to crack.

Leeds v Brentford

Both sides seem to have tightened up at the back and this could be a low-scoring affair as a result. However, there are two men in particular who stand out here, both of whom will be in white.

Anton Stach 1+ Shot on Target

Stach hit the back of the net last week from his 3 shots, and of all the Leeds midfielders, he seems to be the one most comfortable having a go from distance. With a resolute Brentford in opposition, this might be one of the keys to success for Leeds this Sunday. Stach also attempted over 2 shots per 90 minutes last season and will be on free kicks.

Leeds defence looks like it is in a better place this season, having been bolstered by the addition of £45 million man James Trafford. The Whites will be looking to expand on their eight clean sheets from last season – a tally that would have been higher with a better keeper between the sticks.

Brentford started off their campaign with a clean sheet also, and after retaining the core of the Bees’ defence this summer, Keith Andrews has taken steps to reinforce their fortitude with the addition of 24-year-old midfielder Mamadou Sangare. He has elite ball recovery attributes, and dominated the centre of the park against Spurs last weekend, meaning that chances won’t come easily for Leeds either.

Sunderland v Fulham

Fulham did the double over Sunderland last season, and were in fact the only team to do so. Both sides will be disappointed after opening week losses, with Sunderland going down 2-1 to newcomers Ipswich, before Fulham fell to local rivals Chelsea by a 3-2 scoreline.
