Tottenham to win

Spurs might be pointless so far this season, but they can make that right here. They’re back on home soil and their opener was harder than it looked on paper. It might be hindsight, but given how settled and relatively unchanged that Brentford team was from the one that finished last season, it was always going to be difficult.

Now Spurs are in a better position. They’ve welcomed two new signings from Man City, in Savio and Omar Marmoush, and are in a position to start bringing back players from injury, or bed in those who arrived late after the World Cup. Newcastle scored two against Liverpool, but looked unconvincing, and don’t have the quality across the park, that this Spurs team do.

As much as I’m backing Spurs to score goals on Saturday, I don’t trust their backline. They have strong players there, and I like the signing of Jan Paul van Hecke, but De Zerbi doesn’t seem to know his first choice defence yet and Antonin Kinsky isn’t convincing in goal.

Newcastle are finally going to see Yoanne Wissa at his best after an injury hit first season at the club, while the wide players Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes offer an intriguing mix of pace on one flank and guile on the other. 

Savio to score or assist

Savio spent two disappointing seasons at the Etihad and arrives in North London as a player written off by many experts. He shouldn’t be. He’s 22, and was sensational at Girona before that move. It didn’t work out at City, but that’s about his ability to play in a Pep Guardiola system, and not a lack of talent.
