19:45pm: Chris Dobey v Michael Van Gerwen – Michael van Gerwen to win 6-4

Looking ahead to today’s opening semi-final at Alexandra Palace, Michael van Gerwen will face Chris Dobey. Chris has done brilliantly to get this far, notably after he exited the competition last year, throwing away a 4-0 lead.

He held himself together against Gerwyn Price, especially after missing those match darts that would have made it 5-2. He would have had all those thoughts going through his head about what happened last year when he dropped that four-set lead.

He’s won three ranking titles this year and is really on the up. He’ll fancy the challenge of Michael van Gerwen tonight. MvG hasn’t been a challenge for the last few months, and he’s been out of sorts.

However, coming into these World Championships, he’s worked his way into form and through the draw, and we saw a real performance from him against Callan Rydz. Rydz threw everything at MvG, but he had the answers.

He hasn’t had that, certainly in terms of quality, in the Premier League and the other Major events, he’s come unstuck. Now it looks like he’s made of sterner stuff, and that’s why I think Van Gerwen will win this semi-final.

It will be close in the early exchanges, but I can see Michael van Gerwen pulling away and maybe winning this 6-4. It will be a great final, and he’ll have a chance at a fourth world title.
