13:50 Sandown – Etalon
The ground conditions will play a part in this 2m 4f handicap chase. It could be quite hard work for some of these. ETALON is handicapped to win on his best form and is a course winner.
He disappointed a couple of starts, but he has a chance if his jumping holds up. Harry Skelton is at the top of the shop in the £500k David Power Jockeys’ Cup and wants to stay there, so he needs every ITV Racing winner he can get to keep his points tally up.
The Moore’s Jupiter Du Gite is a danger, particularly if he gets free on the front end. Harry Skelton should be wise to that though.
14:25 Sandown – Georgi Girl
Della Casa Lunga is clear on ratings in the mares’ race but looks to back up quickly after last week’s win at Kempton. GEORGI GIRL might be valuable against her, having won well at this track last year on slow ground. If there are any chinks in Della Casa Lunga’s armoury, then Georgi Girl can exploit them.
14.40 Wincanton – Stormy Flight
This looks to be between Nocte Volatus and STORMY FLIGHT in this veterans chase over 2m 4f. The latter out in an excellent run when a neck second to Lowry’s Bar (winner again since) at Exeter. Rex Dingle used to be his regular rider, so he knows him well and is reunited with him again.
15:00 Sandown – Copperhead
The Veterans Chase final is an excellent initiative for older horses and COPPERHEAD has found his niche in this sphere. He’s climbed the ratings but can still be competitive off a mark of 133.
Eldorado Allen should be sharper for his last run at Cheltenham. He finished four lengths off his stablemate Copperhead in the race won by Numitor. If Sam Brown is to win, he will need to get up with the leaders early rather than getting shuffled back in the pack, forcing him to pass runners later on. The same applies to Fortescue.
Copperhead looks the safest option to me.
15:15 Wincanton – Authentic Legacy
AUTHENTIC LEGACY has disappointed on his last two starts and seemed caught out by the slow pace last time.
The cheekpieces go back on now and that will help him. If reproducing some of his earlier form, he can go close on his second handicap start.
15:35 Sandown – Oh My Johnny
The coverage ends with a 2m handicap hurdle and OH MY JOHNNY looks to back up an easy win at Uttoxeter last time. He can leave his mark of 116 well behind him this season and would have won at Bangor on his penultimate start but unfortunately tipped up at the last. A big player.
