12:45pm: Dobey v Price
Gerwyn Price takes on Chris Dobey and this is the section of the draw that was going to be a big opportunity for those in it. They can’t be separated in the betting and I think it’s going to be tight.
Both players have shown quality and both have shown a bit of fragility as well. I think Chris Dobey is finally going to make it past the quarter finals of the World Championships.
He’s been excellent here for two years and he would have been so disappointed with the way he exited last year. It will be a tight one, I think we’ll need a deciding set, but I fancy Dobey to go through to his first-ever World Championship semi final.
2:30pm: Van Gerwen v Rydz
Next up on New Year’s Day afternoon is Michael van Gerwen playing Callan Rydz. Both players have done well to get this far, Rydz has been fantastic, he’s just worked his way through the draw.
MvG’s just got better and better as the rounds have gone on and that could be an ominous sign for Rydz. Rydz got to the quarter finals three years ago and his tournament ended there.
I think it will end in the same place this year, maybe Michael will drop three sets but he’ll just have Callan at arm’s length. It’s MvG to make it through to the semis and under 17.5 match 180s is a nice bet as well.
