Weโ€™re all set for what should be an entertaining Manchester United v Rangers clash on Thursday evening in the Europa League.

Anything can happen when the Red Devils take to the pitch while the Gers will be well up for this battle of Britain.

But howโ€™s it going to play out? Our footy tipster Shane Oโ€™Brienโ€˜s delivered his esteemed view on Thursdayโ€™s main event.

Both teams to score

It is a case of one step forward and three steps back for Manchester United at present. Ruben Amorimโ€™s side put in impressive performances in back-to-back games against Liverpool and Arsenal to kick off 2025 and then showed character to turn an embarrassing home defeat against Southampton into a valuable three points.

They then undid a lot of that good work in an insipid display against Brighton, resulting in a 3-1 defeat. What has been consistent in Unitedโ€™s games so far this year is that both teams have found the back of the net in each of them.

In fact, Amorimโ€™s United can almost be relied upon to concede against Rangers on Thursday night. The Red Devils have managed just one clean sheet in all competitions since Amorim took the reins in mid-November, managing just one clean in six Europa League games this season.

Rangers, on the other hand, have kept just two clean sheets in their six group stage games so far and cannot be relied upon to shut out United on Thursday.

Amad Diallo to attempt 4 or more shots

Amad Diallo has been the shining light in what has been a dark period for Manchester United. The Ivorian winger has scored six times since United traveled to Manchester City before Christmas and has looked by far Unitedโ€™s most threatening player in the Amorim era.

Amad averages two shots per game for United this season but did attempt seven efforts across Unitedโ€™s last two home games. Rangers face an average of over 13 shots per game in Europa League away games this season, meaning United โ€“ and Amad โ€“ should pepper the Rangers goal with shots on Thursday.

Over 5.5 cards

Manchester United and Rangers are by no means the dirtiest teams in the Europa League, but they are still averaging roughly four cards per game between them. They are likely to considerably better that average given the fact that the fixture is a British derby with a place in the top eight of the Europa League at stake.

United and Rangers currently sit one place โ€“ and one point โ€“ apart in the Europa League standings, occupying the final two places in the top eight. Rangers average almost 15 fouls per game, ranking in the top ten in terms of fouls per game.

United, on the other hand, have received 13 cards in their four games in 2025 and can easily match that average of over three cards per game on Thursday.

Over 6.5 Manchester United corners

United have won 39 corners in six Europa League games this season at an average of almost seven per game. However, 21 of those corners have come in Unitedโ€™s three home games to date at a rate of exactly seven per game.

They are good value to match that average on Thursday night. United rank second in terms of possession in the Europa League this season and have also attempted the second most shots in the competition.

With the benefit of home advantage, they are likely to dominate the game on Thursday and could easily win seven corners.

Rangers goalkeeper to make 4 or more saves

United are averaging over 18 shots per game in the Europa League this season, underling how wasteful in the competition considering they have scored just 12 goals in six games so far โ€“ an average of exactly two per game.

At present, they require more than nine shots for every goal they score in the Europa League and that is likely to see Liam Kelly forced into action on numerous occasions. Kelly, who is deputising for the injured Jack Butland, is likely to be busy between the sticks on Thursday night.

United average exactly six shots on target per game in Europe this season and there is nothing to suggest that they will not at least match that average when Rangers come to town.
