Liverpool seek Plymouth replay after blown floodlight bulb revealed

Arne Slot has called for Liverpool’s match against Plymouth Argyle to be replayed after footage emerged of a flickering floodlight at Home Park.

Plymouth produced a classic FA Cup giant-killing as the Championship’s bottom club stunned the Premier League leaders with a hard-earned 1-0 victory.

However, video footage circulating online appears to show a flickering floodlight bulb which Liverpool players are now claiming affected their performance.

‘The only outcome should be a replay’, Slot told local media this afternoon.

‘As you’ve probably guessed, the club has already written a cringeworthy letter to the FA demanding as much’.

When asked how the flickering bulb affected his players, the Dutchman said:

‘Some of the lads said they could no longer concentrate on the game and began discussing what was causing the light to flicker’.

‘Luis thought it was a loose bulb while Diogo was convinced it was the wiring. They ended up getting into a heated debate about it which lasted the entire second half.

‘Harvey said the flickering was giving him a migraine. He tried to shield his eyes from the light when the ball struck him on the hand, and he conceded a penalty.

‘In the interests of sporting integrity, it’s only fair we should be allowed to field our full-strength side in a replay and deny Plymouth a money-spinning cup tie against City at the Etihad’.

The former Feyenoord boss also took aim at rivals Man City for their ‘easy’ FA Cup draws which have included Salford City and Leyton Orient.

‘If we are denied a replay and exit the cup, then I guess we are not as lucky as City who get all the best draws’, said the 46-year-old, whose FA Cup opponents were Accrington Stanley and Plymouth before exiting in the 4th Round.

Meanwhile, City have asked UEFA if the FA can also do their Champions League draws after landing Real Madrid in the last-16 draw.

‘We miss the old days when there was less focus on City and we could draw Shakhtar Donetsk every year and no one would notice’, said Pep Guardiola.
