Ruud’s half-time team talk revealed: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed the inspirational half-time message he delivered to his players in their comeback win at Tottenham on Sunday.

The Foxes trailed 1-0 at the break after Brazil striker Richarlison had opened the scoring for the hosts just after the half-hour mark before Leicester scored twice in four minutes after the break through Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss.

Most people believed Van Nistelrooy had given his players the hairdryer treatment at the break but the Dutchman has since cleared the matter up.

“I did not rant and rave like many people believe,” he told PP News.

I simply reminded the boys: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’

“As soon as I said it you could see the lads looking at each other and nodding, as if to say: ‘F***ing hell, he’s right. Tottenham are sh*te’.

“Then our skipper Jamie Vardy chugged a can of Red Bull and told the players: ‘He’s right lads. This is the Spursiest Spurs side I’ve ever played against. Let’s get into them’.

“And fair play to Jamie. Not only did he score a goal within a minute of the restart. He also reminded the Spurs fans that he’d won the Premier League and they hadn’t. Top drawer sh*thousery from the lad.”

Meanwhile, a defiant Ange Postecoglou insists Spurs are still capable of a top four finish next season if chairman Daniel Levy sticks by him.

“With the right investment and a bit of luck with injuries, this Spurs team could finish top four in the Championship next season, mate,” the Australian tactician told Paddy Power News.

“And I would flourish in that league because all the other clubs I’ve managed are Championship standard.

“But focusing on the task at hand, I told the fans I always win a trophy in my second season.

“I just didn’t realise it would be the Banter Cup this year.”
