Tranmere reject Alexander-Arnold links after United horror show

Tranmere Rovers have denied rumours linking them with a January move for Liverpoolโs Trent Alexander-Arnold following his hapless display against Manchester United.
The EFL League Two side were tipped to make an audacious bid to take the 26-year-old to Prenton Park as speculation continues to surround the England defender whose Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season.

However, Rovers distanced themselves from a move for the right-back after his horror showing during Liverpoolโs 2-2 draw with fierce rivals United.
It was Alexander-Arnoldโs poor pass which led to Unitedโs opener while their equaliser originated on his flank.
Discussing the speculation, Tranmere boss Nigel Adkins said:
โContrary to what was said on Sky Sports yesterday, we are not interested in signing Trent Alexander-Arnoldโ.
โWe just donโt feel heโs at Cameron Normanโs level.โ
โI mean, you donโt get to be Newport County Player of the Year unless youโre special.
โItโs not that I donโt rate Trent. Itโs just that Cameron is in that elite band of great right-backs, including the likes of Cafu, Thuram and Michael Sheen at Soccer Aid 2010โ.
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Arne Slot insists Alexander-Arnold can reclaim his spot as the worldโs best right-back โ if he signs a new deal at Anfield.
โTrent can be the best in the world โ or he can be an overrated traitor whoโs still living off that short corner against Barcaโ, the Dutchman told us.
โIt all depends on whether he stays at Liverpool and then our supporters will decide accordinglyโ.
In related news, former Reds defender Dejan Lovren has praised Alexander-Arnold after the 26-year-old relieved him of his โsh*ttest performance in a Liverpool shirtโ title.

Lovren proudly held the honour of the worst performance by a Liverpool player for over 7 years following his first-half display against Tottenham in October 2017.
The 35-year-old Croatian, substituted in the 30th minute that day, told us:
โI knew the day would come when someone would put in a sh*ttier performance than mine at Spurs. I just never imagined it would be Trentโ.
โAlthough itโs sad to lose this title, Trent is a worthy winner after that crock he served up yesterdayโ.
Previous custodians of the award are Steven Gerrard for his performance during Liverpool v Chelsea 2014 and any game played by Mario Balotelli.
