NFL Tips: Our pick of the #WhatOddsPaddy Super Bowl LIX punts

It all comes down to this – Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans  on February 9th, 2025, at 11:35pm on this side of the world, will decide who takes home the Vince Lombardi trophy this year.

Our NFL Nostradamus, Andrew Cunneen, has already been having mysterious visions of what’s going to unfold for those who determinedly stay up into the wee small hours of the following Monday morning and selected some of his favourite #WhatOddsPaddy bets.

Super Bowl LIX #WhatOddsPaddy picks

Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes to Each Record 15+ Passing Yards in Each Quarter
Saquon Barkley to Record 100+ Rushing Yards and the Eagles to Win
Each Team to Score 1+ Rushing TD and 1+ Passing TD
A.J. Brown & Travis Kelce to Each Record 5+ Receiving Yards in Each Quarter
Jalen Hurts & Patrick Mahomes to Each Record 5+ Rushing Yards in Each Quarter

Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes to Each Record 15+ Passing Yards in Each Quarter

So, when you initially read it, you think it’s free money.

Until you realise that these two teams methodically drive down the field and hold possession for a long time.

Take, for example, a Kansas City drive at the beginning of the first quarter. They could well take fifteen plays to get down for a score. It wouldn’t shock you.

By then, you’ve half the clock eaten up, and Philly gets the ball. Is it inconceivable that they don’t get a first down? I don’t think so.

Ball goes back to Mahomes and the clock expires before a turnover of possession.

Even with all that said, this is my favourite bet of the weekend. The likelihood of it happening is far greater than not, despite what the price is suggesting to you.

Saquon Barkley to Record 100+ Rushing Yards and the Eagles to Win

I like this most because without Barkley going for a tonne, they’re not winning anyway. So why not take a large chunk of odds-against than you’re getting for straight-up moneyline?

Hurts is, well, average. And they know their explosive plays either come on the outside through AJ Brown or through Saquon. Given the Chiefs are set up to stop the pass and not the run, if Philly aren’t in a 60/40 rush versus pass game script, I’ll be absolutely stunned.

Each Team to Score 1+ Rushing TD and 1+ Passing TD

This is great because both have tendencies to offer up a run on all three downs when it’s goal-to-go.

And while that might sound counter-productive, you have to think the likelihood of scoring a 40+-yard touchdown on the ground is much tougher than through the air. You can miscommunicate on a pass play – you just swarm to the runner otherwise.

But then Mahomes won’t leave a Super Bowl without a highlight score, not will Kellen Moore move away from Devonta Smith, where they have a clear advantage.

The Over/Under is at 48.5, which suggests 5-6 touchdowns. We have room to operate in.

A.J. Brown & Travis Kelce to Each Record 5+ Receiving Yards in Each Quarter

Kelce will, because they have nowhere else to go, and Brown is solely about whether or not he wins his first rep against Trent McDuffie. If he manages it, Hurts will look there over and over again.

For the price of him winning a rep and having both teams get into passing rhythm, I think it’s a shot worth taking.

Jalen Hurts & Patrick Mahomes to Each Record 5+ Rushing Yards in Each Quarter

Jalen has had an extra week to heal up. If they want to try and take pressure off the run game, they’ll likely have to get him involved.

That. And every third down and short is a tush push giving you two yards anyway.

For Mahomes, he’s facing a defence that should have a lot of answers on third down, but with Baun likely tasked with Kelce, they have a tendency to leave space in the interior when Jalen Carter is on the field. He overpursues a lot, and Mahomes can slip out to convert when needed.

I’ve punted far worse at the price.
