Thursday’s Sandown tips

13:20 – Casa Loupi
13:55 – Issam
14:30 – Hollygrove Cha Cha
15:05 – Frenchy Du Large
15:40 – Le Tiep’s Sacre
16:12 – Happy And Fine
16:45 – Tom Doniphon

13:20 – Casa Loupi

Gary & Josh Moore are triple handed in this conditional jockeys’ hurdle, with Rob Hargreaves’ mount CASA LOUPI selected to make light of a 3 lb rise for last month’s course and distance success when he took advantage of a reduced mark. He still looks well treated on his best form. Jackpot d’Ainay made all in a novice at Market Rasen last time and likely has more to offer in handicaps and is second choice ahead of Raffles Nobu, a new recruit for the Nicky Henderson yard.

13:55 – Issam

All four need considering in this two-mile handicap chase but Tom Symonds’ ISSAM bettered his hurdles form straightaway with a successful debut over fences at Exeter last month when gamely getting the better of Pic Roc by a head and is taken to follow up. Likely front-runner Hypotenus made a positive start for Joe Tickle when third at long odds over course and distance three weeks ago with a bold round of jumping and rates the main threat.

14:30 – Hollygrove Cha Cha

HOLLYGROVE CHA CHA should relish the return to 2½m and can provide Jamie Snowden with a third win in this Grade 2 mares’ novices’ hurdle since 2021. She met with her first defeat when dropped in trip at Taunton last time. Holloway Queen has to give weight away all round but might still be the one to give the selection most to do unless the market vibes are notably strong surrounding Mummy Derry who makes her debut over hurdles for Willie Mullins.

15:05 – Frenchy Du Large

Preference is for Venetia Williams’ FRENCHY DU LARGE who is suited by the conditions of this contest and can be excused his last outing at Haydock in December. He shaped as though retaining all his ability when runner-up at Ludlow after a lengthy absence prior to that. Last year’s winner Farceur du Large could prove most dangerous after a good second in the Grand Military Gold Cup here last time in a tricky-looking renewal of the Royal Artillery Gold Cup.

15:40 – Le Tiep’s Sacre

LE TIEP’S SACRE showed plenty when placed in both his starts in France, including when third on his debut over hurdles at Auteuil last time and, as a four-year-old, can take advantage of a handy weight-for-age allowance on his first start here for Gary & Josh Moore. The progressive Lawrenny is an obvious threat under a penalty for his win at Wetherby two starts back, while Tradecraft looks sure to leave his hurdles debut behind.

16:12 – Happy And Fine

HAPPY AND FINE did well when Alex Hales sent him chasing last season before losing his way a bit but he made a promising start to this campaign when fourth at Haydock in December. This race looks slightly easier, so he gets the vote having also been eased 1 lb. Classic Anthem has gone close a couple of times already over fences, including at Warwick last time, and remains unexposed as a chaser, so is feared most ahead of Jupiter du Gite.

16:45 – Tom Doniphon

There should be more to come from TOM DONIPHON and he can complete the hat-trick in the finale for Philip Hobbs & Johnson White after a couple of comfortable wins at Taunton which suggest he can overcome an 8 lb rise in the weights. Handicap debutants Either Way, successful at Uttoxeter in the autumn, and King Califet, a fortunate winner on his debut at Newbury before an improved effort last time, rate the principal dangers.
