Rory Delargy as Kala Conti beats Kargese at Leopardstown

Rory Delargy’s Mares’ Hurdle Antepost Tips:

Kala Conti (each-way)

Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’ is back as host Tom Nugent picks the brains of the Cheltenham Festival’s winning-most jockey turned TV pundit Ruby Walsh and well-known journalist and broadcaster Rory Delargy.

On the third of this year’s series, the gang have looked at the Mares’ Hurdle ahead of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.

RORY DELARGY

If Brighterdaysahead and Lossiemouth line up on the day, there’s no doubt that the former is the one to beat.

If we’re looking at this race without the big two at the top of the market then Kala Conti is the obvious one.

It’s a no-brainer to back Kala Conti

She was second to July Flower at Leopardstown over Christmas and she’s a really nice and likeable mare.

She jumped really well that day and she could have done with the last hurdle being there (two hurdles were omitted that day) as she jumped  solidly throughout. She pressed on a little too soon whereas July Flower got a perfect ride.

Kala Conti was giving her 5lbs that day and they’ll be level weights at Cheltenham. Despite that, Kala Conti is about four times the price of July Flower.

It’s a no-brainer to back her at those prices. Even if Brighterdaysahead and Lossiemouth run, you’re getting a great price on Kala Conti. She’s a level behind those two but she’s an each-way option.

She’s a really obvious pick but she’s been missed out a bit (in the market) because of how well July Flower ran at Leopardstown. I’m on her now and then I may press up and go again after the Dublin Racing Festival.
