Thyestes Handicap Chase tips and runners guide to Gowran Park 2.48

Yeah Man is bidding to secure a first victory in the prestigious Thyestes Handicap Chase for top trainer Gavin Cromwell at Gowran Park on Thursday.

The antepost favourite, who won last season’s Haydock Grand National Trial, has only been increased 2lbs for placing third in the Troytown Handicap Chase last time out and looks set to get his preferred testing conditions.

The Troytown winner, Stuzzikini, is one of six entries for Gordon Elliott but he races off a career-high mark of 140 and jockey bookings suggest the stable seem to favour last term’s Punchestown Grand National Trial scorer Where It All Began and Paddy Power Chase fifth Will Do, who is still a maiden over fences.

Willie Mullins, the most successful trainer in the history of the race, saddles four including Paddy Power Chase fourth Nick Rockett and last season’s Scottish Grand National hero Macdermott.

Henry de Bromhead saddled Ain’t That A Shame to victory in last year’s renewal of the Thyestes Handicap Chase and he relies on Largy Debut, returning from a 431-day break, to bring home the bacon.

Timeform: NICK ROCKETT took another step forward when an excellent fourth in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown on return and he may have come on for that, so he gets the nod ahead of Shannon Royale, who took a novice in likeable fashion at Punchestown last time and probably has even more to offer. Yeah Man completes the shortlist.
