Brunel Charm is respected on the back of his latest effort having met trouble in running, while Watermelon Sugar looks set to run another solid race.

This looks a good opportunity for ALSHIMALI, who has been knocking on the door of late, narrowly finding just one rival too strong for the second run in a row at Southwell last time, and a repeat of that effort should be good enough to take this. Poetic Jack, a past course and distance winner, can leave his last run behind, while Big Bard isn’t discounted, either, having been too keen when well backed at Kempton last time.

12:45 Plague De Havre

PLAGE DE HAVRE offered something to work on when making his debut in September 2023 and he has improved in both of his starts since returning from an absence and a gelding operation in November. He bumped into a useful sort at Wolverhampton and a potentially smart one at Chelmsford last time, doing little wrong but no match for the superior winner. This doesn’t look as deep and he can deservedly open his account, likely at the main expense of Tribal Act, who was very inexperienced on his debut.

This is a competitive race with several who like to go forward and that could set it up for SECOND COLLECTION, who benefitted from a patient ride when scoring in first-time blinkers last time. He is up just 1 lb for that success and, representing a trainer who continues in form, he is taken to follow up. THAPA VC and Monsieur Beaulieu are closely matched on their running over this course and distance last week and can come to the fore again. Mark Rimell’s charge proved at least as good as ever on that occasion, just ending up with a fraction too much to do after a sluggish start, and he is fancied to come out on top if getting the breaks. Bell Shot is also respected.

14:20 Michaela’s Boy

MICHAELA’S BOY did quite well to hold off a pair ridden in contrasting fashion at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago, confirming the promise of his previous run to snap a losing run stretching back over two years, and he is the percentage call to go in again following a small rise in the weights. Mc Loven and Diomed Sprit head the opposition in tightly-knit affair.

14:55 Tortured Soul

TORTURED SOUL was right back on song when scoring at Wolverhampton recently, going with plenty of enthusiasm and produced to lead in the final furlong. He tends to come good around this time of year and he is a straightforward choice to follow up given he escapes a penalty for that success. Charlie’s Choice can go well again, while Sharp Distinction remains fairly treated on old form.

H KEY LAILS has been going through a good spell of late, and produced a career-best effort when resuming winning ways over this course and distance last month, beating the reopposing Book of Like by two lengths. He travelled strongly at the head of affairs that day, kicking for home off the bend and his rivals were unable to get on terms. A subsequent 4 lb rise is workable and he seems sure to launch another bold bid. The Spotlight Kid should also be in the mix again.
