16:30 Khangai

Representing an up-and-coming yard, C&D victor KHANGAI was worn down late on upped to 1m6f when runner-up here recently and is fancied to resume winning ways now back to his optimum distance.

Recent Lingfield scorer Paradoxical rates a big threat under a 5 lb penalty for that stylish success, with Coloane also firmly in the picture now her stamina is drawn out more. She was denied a clear run when a close third at Wolverhampton on her latest start, and though this longer trip will ask some more questions about her stamina, this Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ looks likely to have the race run to suit and she must go close if lasting home.

17:00 Perennial

Not many of these can be safely discounted. Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ PERENNIAL is interesting on the back of an encouraging all-weather/stable debut over 6f at Chelmsford last month, and he looks just the type to do well for the shrewd Stuart Williams yard with his headgear combo retained.

So Quiet shaped well on his first run here last month, and steadily edging down the handicap, he is second choice ahead of Wolverhampton winner Lattaash and the consistent pair of Judgment Call and Ziggy’s Condor. The class-dropping Palmar Bay looks the pick of the rest.

17:30 Stardancer

The vote goes to STARDANCER, who stepped up on his debut when chasing home a potentially decent type from the Simon & Ed Crisford yard over this C&D recently and he should continue to improve with experience.

Newcomer Rebel’s Gamble makes plenty of appeal on paper (sales price rose to 135,000 guineas as a yearling) and it will be an ominous sign for the others if he’s strong in the betting, while Coul Angel and Invincible Melody should both build on their encouraging debuts. Coul Angel is a half-brother to Coulthard, who was placed in the Group 3 Round Tower Stakes on his second start, and he was awarded the Timeform ‘Sectional Flag’ after his strong finish over 5f on debut.

18:00 Empowered Queen

A few with chances but the vote goes to EMPOWERED QUEEN who rates the pick of the weights on the back of her very good recent fourth here and should find this return to further also a plus if settling slightly better.

The C&D hat-trick-seeking Whizz By rates the obvious threat under a 5 lb rise, with Bantz, who finished with running left last time, and handicap newcomer Rock Diva also in the picture, for all the last-named may want a little further. The Outlaw remains open to improvement now in low-grade handicaps and is one to watch closely in the betting for signs of confidence.

18:30 Starsong

Having been shorter in the betting than for a while in the run-up to the race, STARSONG got right back on track when runner-up at Lingfield last time and this course winner can capitalise on a reduced mark here (now 5lb lower than for her last win).

Rapido Girl is feared most on the back of her good Newcastle second, having held her form well this winter, with Bella Kopella another who can have a say now stepped up in distance. Tom Ward immediately drops Beveragino in trip on her first start for the yard which could prove significant, so she’s another to consider closely.

19:00 Piperstown

PIPERSTOWN failed to land any sort of a blow in a 5f Newcastle handicap on New Year’s Day, but he wasn’t given a hard time, and it’d be no surprise should connections allow him to take his chance, having had little luck in running that day. If so, the four-year-old, who was successful here on his penultimate start, may well get back on the winning trail.

Autumn Angel and Bernie The Bear, first and second respectively at Wolverhampton on Monday, rate the main dangers; both were well-backed that day suggesting they may have more to offer. Jesse Luc could also have a part to play with Hayley Turner an eye-catching jockey booking.

19:30 Ustath

Four-time C&D winner USTATH should come on for his recent mid-field finish in a handicap here, given that it was his first appearance for three months, and he could be the answer back in classified company.

Glory Call was a respectable fourth over 7f last time and he is greatly respected back down in trip, while the temperamental Kapparis Kid and C&D winner May Remain are others with reasonable prospects in what looks a very winnable race.

20:00 Elterwater

The Daniel & Claire Kubler-trained ELTERWATER is thriving, having been dropped back to a mile, and is fancied to quickly resume winning ways with the form of her Chelmsford second working out well.

Recent C&D scorer (awarded the race) Union Island heads the list of dangers given his improved form this winter, with Commander Crouch also firmly in the picture in this competitive handicap. Cheekpieces, a reduced mark, and a return to Southwell could see an improved performance from Mr Fustic, while similar comments apply to Kodebreaker who swaps cheekpieces for a visor.

20:30 Devasboy

Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ DEVASBOY shaped well on his first run for Mick Appleby when fourth at Lingfield last time, caught further back than ideal and not given a hard time.

He is fancied to build on that and fend off James Owen’s lightly-raced Jaamir who posted a very good fourth at Chelmsford on his recent handicap debut. C&D winner Tea Sea can also have a say in an intriguing contest where luck-in-running may play a part (lots of hold-up performers towards the top of the shortlist).
