Learning about multiple bets is the first step to expanding your betting activity beyond single selections and digging deeper into the odds.

Multiples can greatly enhance your payout potential because they combine single picks into bigger bets, which raises the odds. When done right, multiple betting can become the go-to option when you’re following the football, horse racing, golf… basically any sport!

This Paddy Power guide is here to show you the basics of multiple betting. We’ve even included a step-by-step walkthrough for placing multiples on our site!

What are multiple bets?

Multiple bets is a catch-all term for any bet that includes two or more selections. The idea is to pick multiple outcomes on the same or different events, and combine these selections into one big bet. That’s the multiple.

In most cases, the multiple bet forms what’s called an accumulator, or acca. Here, all your picks need to win in order for you to win the entire bet.

However, there are other forms of multiple bet that are particularly popular in horse racing betting. Doubles and trebles are common, while there’s a range of more complex multiples that include Trixies, Patents, Yankees, Lucky 15s, Lucky 31s, Canadians, Heinz bets, and Goliaths.

This guide is going to focus on how to place a multiple bet at Paddy Power. We’ll show you the simple steps you need to take and explain how you create those more complex bet structures all in one place.

How to place a multiple bet

Let’s get stuck into the process of placing a multi bet at Paddy Power. First, you need to sign up for a Paddy Power account and make a deposit. You must be aged 18 or over. Make sure you trigger our welcome offer, and set deposit and bet limits. This way you can bet within your budget.

Once your account is active, follow these steps to place your bet.

  1. Find your bets

A multi bet requires at least two selections. So, you need to head to the Paddy Power homepage or app and find the events you want to bet on. You could keep it all within the same sport, such as football or horse racing. Or you could choose multiple sports to add into your bet. You can also add numerous selections from the same event into your bet, which is known as a Bet Builder.

  1. Select each bet

When you find a bet you want to back, click on the odds to add it to your bet slip. The bet slip will grow each time you add an extra bet.

  1. Choose your multiple bet type

Let’s use football betting for our example. Say you pick three teams to win their games in a Champions League gameweek:

  • Lille to beat Graz at 2/5
  • Stuttgart to beat Young Boys at 1/4
  • Benfica to beat Bologna at 4/9

You’ll notice on your bet slip that you can enter a stake for each individual match. These are single bets that aren’t connected to the other matches.

Or, you can open up one of the “multiples” that are below. For a three-pick bet like this, you can choose:

  • Treble
  • Patent
  • Trixie
  • Double

Let’s say you keep it simple and go with a treble bet. This is a simple accumulator, where all three selected teams need to win, in order for you to win your bet.

  1. Place your multiple bet

To place your bet, you need to click on the “Treble” button to open that bet option. You’ll notice your odds of 1.53/1 are displayed. Simply enter your stake and you’ll see your potential payout, should all three selections win.

In this instance, a £5 multiple bet on those three selections carries potential returns of £12.64.

Once you’re happy with your selections and stake, hit the Place Bet button to complete the process.

Now, you could also choose another option from the four multiple bets available to you, or add more selections to create an even bigger bet. The principle is always the same, but be aware that structures like Trixies and Lucky 15s come with multiple stakes.

Multiple bet calculator

If you’re unsure of how much you stand to bet and stand to win from a multiple bet then you can use Paddy Power’s multi bet calculator. Simply enter the odds of each pick, select the bet type, and enter your stake to see your profit potential.

Or you can craft the bet in your bet slip and see your total stake and potential returns before deciding whether or not to commit to the bet.

Either way, Paddy’s here to give you as much information as possible, so you can make the right choice for you!
