Both teams to score

It’s quite hard to see who will come out on top here but goals are to be expected with neither backline filling you with confidence in recent weeks. Tottenham’s home games usually see goals, they’ve seen both teams to score in ten of their 12 games in the Premier League this season, a run that includes seeing both sides finding the back of the net in each of their last five games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Manchester United can be a bit toothless in attack but will be encouraged by the depleted Tottenham backline and how easily sides have carved through them this season. Ruben Amorim’s side have seen BTTS in two of their last five games across all competitions which isn’t the most convincing record but this should be balanced out by Tottenham’s shaky backline who have only kept one clean sheet across their last seven Premier League games.

The initial meeting between these sides was packed with incidents, Bruno Fernandes was shown a controversial red card late in the first half which scuppered any chances United had of getting a foothold in the game but they still went on to manage an xG of 0.96 in a 3-0 defeat. This was followed up by a seven-goal thriller as Tottenham ran out 4-3 winners in the EFL Cup meeting between these sides, a game that showcased just how vulnerable these teams are at the back.

Mathys Tel 1+ shots on target

Mathys Tel has shown early signs of promise since joining from Bayern Munich at the end of the January transfer window in a saga that also involved Manchester United.

Tel scored a consolation goal in Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last time out which saw Tottenham exit the FA Cup, the second cup competition they were dumped out of last week. Tottenham usually do create chances for their forward players as evidenced by the fact that Ange Postecoglu’s side are averaging 5.4 shots on target per game in the Premier League this season – only four sides in the division boast a better record when it comes to this metric.

Tel was played on the left wing in their cup exit to Aston Villa but can also play through the middle, a role that he may be tasked with here in the absence of Dominic Solanke. In his limited minutes for Bayern Munich this season, Tel managed three shots on target across his 253 minutes of football in the Bundesliga (1.07 per 90). He should be able to find the target at least once here on his home debut.

Djed Spence 1+ fouls committed

Djed Spence has committed eight fouls across his 11 Premier League appearances this season (1.06 per 90). He’s committed at least one foul in each of his last five Premier League appearances.

This is a record largely informed by the fact that Spence has been having to fill in at left-back for the majority of the season, a switch from his natural right-back role which has seen him face some awkward assignments against opposition wingers who know he isn’t the most comfortable on that side.

He’ll be up against one of those here in Amad Diallo, Diallo has won 23 fouls across his 22 Premier League appearances this season (1.30 per 90). Spence committed three fouls in the EFL Cup meeting between these sides up against Amad Diallo, the 24-year-old contested 21 duels in total during the game.

Spence will also have to deal with Patrick Dorgu who is expected to line up behind Amad Diallo, also in an unfamiliar position to the new signing who was signed to plug the hole United had at left wing-back but was deployed on the right against Leicester in the FA Cup. Dorgu won two fouls on his debut in just 45 minutes of action.

Manuel Ugarte 1+ fouls won

Manuel Ugarte has seen a mixed bag of performances since joining Manchester United from Paris St-Germain, the combative midfielder certainly has the physicality to contend with the demands of Premier League football but other aspects of his game such as positioning and matching the speed of the game have come into question at times this season.

He’s quite strong in both foul metrics, Ugarte has won 19 fouls across his 18 Premier League appearances this season, and 13 of these have been starts taking his average to 1.58 fouls won per 90. This record includes winning at least one foul in each of his last five Premier League appearances.

He’ll be in a direct battle with the talented but reckless Lucas Bergvall who has committed 11 fouls across his 17 Premier League appearances this season but just five of these have been starts taking his average to 1.65 fouls committed per 90. Ugarte was fouled twice in the initial league meeting between these sides.

Tottenham corner match bet

One area where Tottenham have performed quite well this season is winning corners, Ange Postecoglu’s side have a whole host of problems too long to list here but do find themselves racking up the corners with their tendency to continue playing on the front foot despite the injuries to their backline.

Tottenham are averaging 7.50 corners per game in the Premier League this season, this is a record that rises to 8.17 when looking across their home games this season. This makes good reading when compared to Manchester United’s 5.00 corners per game across the Premier League as a whole this campaign, a record that drops slightly to 4.36 per game when United travel away to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are struggling to maintain attacking pressure in the final third, this is why their corner rate has fallen as the season has gone on. Ruben Amorim’s side still have a lot of work to do find attacking fluency whilst Ange Postecoglu’s side are a few steps ahead in their process and can sustain pressure with their attacks, even if they don’t manage to take their chances which should see them win the corner battle here.
