7:45pm: Peterborough vs Wigan – Wigan to win

Peterborough’s slide down the League One table continued on Saturday, succumbing to a 5-1 defeat at Lincoln. Darren Ferguson came out all guns blazing in his post-match press conference, lambasting his side and describing them as ‘without a doubt the softest players I’ve ever managed.’

His defence was to blame once more. They’ve conceded 52 goals this season – the most in the division by five. That was despite three new defensive signings starting – a sign of the struggles engrained at the club.

Posh should have enough to stay up, especially given the dire straits the bottom four have found themselves in. However, their form will worry their fans. Their only win in their last 12 came in the 4-3 win over struggling Crawley back in December.

The visitors to London Road on Tuesday are Wigan Athletic who will be buoyed by a dominant 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers. Nine points off the playoffs and 12 clear of relegation, Wigan’s season looks to be petering out, but many Latics’ fans will be delighted with some stability after years of off-the-pitch uncertainty.

Shaun Maloney has his side hard to break down, conceding just 26 goals – the sixth-fewest in the league. The aim will be to frustrate Peterborough in hopes the crowd get toxic. While the Latics have only scored 26 goals, they may fancy their chances of grabbing one against a poor Posh defence. If that is the case, Wigan may come away with yet another away win.

7:45pm: Wrexham v Stevenage – Under 0.5 Stevenage goals

Wrexham battled to a 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham to maintain their unbeaten record at the Racecourse Ground. Phil Parkinson’s side have taken 39 points from a possible 45 at home, scoring 29 goals and conceding just nine in the process. Wrexham have also kept a clean sheet in eight of their home games.

Visiting North Wales on Tuesday night are 15th place Stevenage. After losing Steve Evans to Rotherham heading into the new season, the hierarchy looked within to appoint Alex Revell as manager. The 41-year-old has continued the foundations that Evans lay for him, making his side extremely hard to beat – evidenced by the 22 goals conceded.

Boro have also struggled in front of goal – scoring just 20 goals – the fewest in the league. Away from home, the attacking woes have been blatant, blanking in seven games, scoring just four times. With eight goals conceded, their game plan is to not lose. Expect Stevenage to sit in and frustrate their hosts, thus limiting their own attacking threat once more.

7:45pm: Bradford v Morecambe – Bradford win and over 1.5 goals

Undoubtedly the biggest club in League Two, Bradford have been stuck languishing in England’s fourth division for a sixth season now. The Bantams have made the playoffs just once in this time and run a big risk of their crowds dwindling if the on-pitch performances continue to disappoint.

However, Graham Alexander’s side now sit seventh, just two points off second place Crewe after a strong run of form. Bradford are now unbeaten in six in the league, winning five of these, including dismantling runaway leaders Walsall 3-0 on the weekend. The Valley Parade faithful have been treated in recent weeks, with their side winning their last five games – scoring 11 goals in the process.

Throughout the season, Valley Parade has become a fortress, with Bradford losing just once en route to 30 points from 13 home games. Visiting West Yorkshire are basement boys Morecambe. Derek Adams’ side now sit six points from safety after losing once more on the weekend – this time a 1-0 loss at Colchester.

The Shrimps are devoid of any confidence and look confined to the drop. Off-the-field issues have destroyed their season, with Adams unsure if they can even afford the £500 to appeal Lee Angol’s controversial red card. Things could go from bad to worse when they travel to League Two’s inform team.

7:45pm: Crewe v AFC Wimbledon – Both teams to score – no and under 2.5 goals

Despite a shock 0-1 loss to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, Crewe still sit second in League Two and look in good shape to go one step further than their playoff final heartbreak last year.

The Railwaymen were unbeaten in five before the loss to Accrington and will see that game as a one-off in an unpredictable league. Lee Bell’s side boasts the second-best defensive record in the league, conceding just 23 goals. Eight of their 13 games at the Mornflake Stadium have seen under 2.5 goals.

AFC Wimbledon held bitter rivals MK Dons to a goalless draw, extending their unbeaten run to five games, conceding just twice in this run. The Dons have the best defensive record in the league, conceding just 19 goals. Their away games have seen 23 goals for an average of 1.91 goals per match, with 8/12 seeing under 2.5 goals.

With both teams boasting the best defensive records in the league and gunning for promotion, a close, cagey game is expected in Cheshire.

7:45pm: Swindon v Tranmere – Swindon to win

Swindon looked to be embroiled in a relegation scrap, but just one loss in their last eight, including back-to-back wins has given them breathing room, now sat ten clear of relegation. Ian Holloway came in for criticism for arguing with fans in the 1-0 loss at Bradford but this has seemed to spark life into his side. Since then, the Robins have won three of their four games, as well as drawing 0-0 against Crewe.

Tranmere are in real relegation trouble, with their only win in the last seven coming at home to fellow strugglers Carlisle. Nigel Adkins’s side have the worst away record in the league, have lost the last seven away matches on the bounce and face a tough task away at a rejuvenated Swindon side.
