Chelsea v Arsenal women Tips: Russo on target in our 13/1 WSL Bet Builder

There is a pretty good argument to be made that the London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal is the fixture in the Women’s Super League. They are the two teams who have the most titles in England and since the WSL was created in 2011 they have won 10 of the 13 titles on offer. Very often these games can have a huge say in where the title goes.

Coming into Sunday’s clash at Stamford Bridge things are no different, the Blues are top of the table, ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United in second by a mammoth seventh points. Sonia Bompastor’s charges have dropped just two points all season – in a 1-1 draw to Leicester City – but they will face a tough test on Sunday, Arsenal have been resurgent under Renee Slegers, who has now been named as the permanent replacement for Jonas Eidevall.

Who will come out on top in this blockbuster clash? Read on to find out what our tipster Peter Sharland fancies in his Chelsea v Arsenal betting tips.

Chelsea double chance

So we begin with two more results-based bets. Arsenal haven’t won away at Chelsea (be that Kingsmeadow or the Bridge) since a historic 5-0 hammering all the way back in 2018 despite some famous wins when playing at home. As mentioned above the Gunners are much improved under Slegers – they are yet to lose since she was placed in interim charge – and will be a real threat to Chelsea, but it seems highly unlikely they will be able to take all three points so this double chance bet is a great choice.

Both teams to score – yes

And it might seem weird to pick both teams to score when Chelsea are yet to concede in 2025 but in their last four games before the end of 2024 they did concede. Plus, you have to consider that the three games they have played against this year have come against vastly inferior opposition, Arsenal represent a major step up. Chelsea will be strengthening their backline with the arrival of Naomi Girma according to reports, but even if that moves come to fruition there’s no chance she’ll be fit to play on Sunday. Arsenal will fancy themselves to get on the scoresheet.

Alessia Russo to score anytime

Speaking of, one player who will be fancying her chances of finding the back of the net is Alessia Russo. For so much of the start of the season Russo looked like a lost soul, no player embodying the club’s struggles under Eidevall more than the England international. Since Slegers took over however, Russo has looked reborn, scoring in six consecutive WSL games. She is the Gunners’ top scorer this season with 12 goals in all competitions and represents nice value. If you want a different option consider Mariona Caldentey or Frida Maanum.

Guro Reiten to score anytime

For Chelsea their top scorer is Guro Reiten who is on ten and like Russo she offers nice value. Reiten is a guarantee to start, and she is on penalty duty. That is good news because the exact make-up of Chelsea’s attack is still a little uncertain with Lauren James currently suffering with illness and Mayra Ramirez getting a bit banged up against West Ham albeit the Colombian was an unused substitute in midweek against Durham. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd is also working her way back from injury whilst Aggie Beever-Jones stamped her case against Durham with the opening goal. Reiten is a nice consistent in the Chelsea attack that we feel confident selecting.
