Ahead of a busy Saturday of action across the EFL, tipster Matthew O’Regan is back with his best bets from the Championship, League One and League Two this weekend.

EFL Betting Tips

3pm Sunderland v Plymouth – Sunderland to win and both teams to score: No
3pm Leyton Orient v Reading – Leyton Orient to win and under 4.5 goals
3pm Crewe v Accrington Stanley – Crewe to win
3pm Fleetwood v Carlisle – Fleetwood to win

QPR v Sheffield Wednesday – Both teams to score: Yes

Despite a slow start to the season under popular manager Marti Cifuentes, QPR look in playoff contention after just one loss in 13. The West Londoners have won four on the bounce, beating Watford and Luton at home (3-1 and 2-1) plus away wins over Plymouth (0-1) and Hull (1-2).

Loftus Road has also turned into a fortress in recent weeks, with the R’s winning five on the run in front of their own fans, and scoring 12 goals in the process. Of their 14 home games, 11 have seen BTTS – the second most in the league.

Sheffield Wednesday have seen seven of their 13 away games see BTTS land, including six of their last eight in all competitions – the exceptions being a 2-0 home win against Stoke and 3-0 loss to Leeds. With both teams on the cusp of the top six, we should see an exciting game. The reverse fixture ended 1-1 and it would not be a surprise to see a repeat scoreline this weekend.

Sunderland v Plymouth – Sunderland to win and both teams to score: No

Sunderland continued their promotion push with a midweek 0-1 win at Derby – making it four games unbeaten and three clean sheets in a row. The  EFL Championship looks to be a four-horse race, with the Black Cats at the rear. However, they are just five points off Leeds and look in a strong position to launch a promotion charge.

The Stadium of Light has proven to be a tough place to go, with no team leaving Tyne and Wear with three points. Regis Le Bris’ side have won nine and draw four of their 13 home games, scoring 22 and conceding eight goals. Of their nine wins, six have featured a clean sheet.

Making the long journey north on Saturday are basement boys Plymouth Argyle. The Green Army have just 21 points in the league and sit six points from safety. Their away form has epitomised those struggles, picking up just three points and scoring three goals,, plus conceding 35. The Green Army are fresh off of a 0-5 home loss to Burnley and may struggle to create a meaningful attack against a resilient Sunderland defence.

Leyton Orient v Reading – Leyton Orient to win and under 4.5 goals

Leyton Orient sit just three points off the League One playoffs, with a game in hand, as they look to mount an unexpected promotion push. Richie Wellens’ side for so long had the style but lacked the substance, so the 44-year-old will be delighted with the progress they’ve made.

The O’s are unbeaten in their last nine league outings, keeping a clean sheet in seven of these – including their last five games at Brisbane Road. Of 13 home games, Orient have picked up 21 points, conceding just nine goals and scoring 17. All 13 have seen less than five goals.

In what is an unfortunately familiar story in recent weeks, Reading’s season has been chaotic from the start. Head coach Ruben Selles departed for Hull, with club legend Noel Hunt promoted from within to lead the team until the end of the season.

At the Madejski Stadium, Reading have picked up 27 points from 12 games, while picking up just 14 points away from home. 11 of their 13 away games have seen less than five goals.

Crewe v Accrington Stanley – Crewe to win

Crewe suffered playoff final heartbreak last year, but looked to have bounced back to full effect this year. The Railwaymen sit second in a tight league, and are now five games unbeaten, losing just once in their last 18 league games.

While drawing games has been an issue (12 wins and ten draws), Lee Bell’s side are the third best defensive team in the league, conceding just 22 goals all season. Gresty Road has become a fortress this year, with Crewe losing just once, and winning seven of their 12 home games.

21st placed Accrington Stanley make the short trip to Crewe, looking to improve on their torrid away form that has seen them take just 11 points from 12. John Doolan’s side are five points from safety but may get dragged closer to relegation if Tranmere, Morecambe or Carlisle win on Saturday.

Fleetwood v Carlisle – Fleetwood to win

Buoyed by the appointment of Pete Wild, Fleetwood Town harbour hopes of the playoffs. The Cods sit eight points from the playoffs with a game in hand and are full of belief after beating Salford away and MK Dons at home in their last two, as well as being a couple minutes away from a point at Doncaster in his first away game.

Fleetwood have lost just twice at home this season and will fancy their chances against rock bottom Carlisle. Mike Williamson’s side are seven points from safety after losing four of their last five games. Away from home, the Cumbrians have struggled, picking up just nine points from 12 and they will be hard pressed to leave Lancashire with anything.
