‘They’re the best team in the world’ – Joe Cole backs 35/1 Liverpool for quadruple trophy haul
It’s the most sought-after achievement left in English football. Many have come close, but none have yet to conquer the seemingly unthinkable – winning the quadruple.
Manchester City narrowly missed the accolade in 2023, winning the treble of Premier League, FA Cup, and their first Champions League. However, they missed the Carabao Cup, as Nathan Jones – yes Nathan Jones – steered his Southampton side past them in a 2-0 quarter-final win.
Saints sacked Jones exactly one month later after losing the semi-final 3-1 on aggregate to Newcastle. They then finished bottom of the Premier League.
City’s treble was only the second in the modern era after rivals Manchester United’s famous triumph back in 1999.
However, Joe Cole has his eye on Liverpool to go one better.
Arne Slot’s Reds lead the Premier League, meet Plymouth in the FA Cup at the weekend and are tonight in semi-finals action of the Carabao Cup, where they trail Tottenham 1-0 going into the second-leg at Anfield.
Their former midfielder not only backed them to overturn the deficit, but also to go on to complete a record haul of silverware.
“Liverpool are the best team in the world at the moment,” Joe told Paddy Power TV.
“I can actually see Liverpool winning all four this year.
“I can see them winning all four trophies if they win this game. I really can.
“I’m not saying they will, but I think they’re the best equipped, even more equipped than the Manchester City team that got to this situation in the last few years.
“I think this Liverpool side has a bit more nous about them. That’s where I’m at at the moment.”
