Week Two of Premier League Darts kicks off on Thursday night in Glasgow, and it’s set to be a feisty few days.

Our Darts guru Ben Smith has three picks for this weekend’s action, including who he thinks will make it into the Final.

Thursday, 19:40 – Michael van Gerwen v Stephen Bunting – Michael van Van Gerwen Most 180s

Gerwyn Price to win Week Two

Pro Tour results do not always correlate to big-stage form among PDC players. If they did, Dave Chisnall would have been a world champion and Ian White would have been a Premier League regular throughout the 2010s.

However, when it comes to Gerwyn Price, success on the floor tends to go hand in hand with major tournament joy. There is a myth surrounding the Iceman that the reason he won the World Championship in 2021 is because there were no fans in attendance. That claim is simply unfair, as the Welshman was a perennial major finalist and winner before and after COVID-19.

Last season was Price’s first without a Players Championship title since 2018, and while that was going on, he went the whole year without reaching a major final for the first time since 2016.

Once the 2024 Premier League season was over, the Iceman’s level improved and he won two World Series events but niggling injuries and issues saw him withdraw from several tournaments.

Off the back of a confidence-boosting run to the quarter-finals at the Alexandra Palace, Price is playing his best darts for some time. His PC2 triumph on Tuesday was well-deserved, and he looks overpriced to follow that up with a victory in Glasgow.

There are no easy match-ups in the Premier League, but quarter-final opponent Nathan Aspinall is perhaps the most likely individual to give Price some room for error in the last eight.

Week Two Name the Finalists – Michael van Gerwen v Gerwyn Price

It feels as though every step forward from Michael van Gerwen has been followed by a frustrating step back in recent months, and his performance in week one of the Premier League was symbolic of that.

After gaining revenge on his World Championship final conqueror Luke Littler in the quarter-finals, Mighty Mike established a 4-3 lead over Humphries and was throwing for a 5-3 advantage, but couldn’t maintain a high enough level to close it out.

Despite the setbacks, van Gerwen appears to be on the comeback trail and is averaging over a ton since the last 16 of the World Championship. Like Price, he went the whole of 2024 without a major trophy, but they are each determined to put that right this year.

Getting to a Premier League night final would be a huge deal for van Gerwen after missing out a week ago. Motivation alone won’t carry him through, but the numbers he posts will eventually pay dividends. After skipping the two midweek Pro Tour events, Thursday is all that matters as far as the Dutchman is concerned.

Michael van Gerwen v Stephen Bunting: Michael van Gerwen Most 180s

Ordinarily a frequent switcher around the board, van Gerwen has become more stubborn on the treble 20, with only Littler and Chris Dobey registering more 180s per leg than the Green Machine over the last three months.

Stephen Bunting is one of the biggest 180-merchants on the tour, but van Gerwen is hitting more maximums at the moment, and until that changes, he should not really be going off as such an underdog in the most 180s market.

Mighty Mike registered six 180s against Littler last week, before winning the maximum battle against Humphries by three to one.
