Place your bet at Paddy Power

The Paddy Power bet calculator shows the potential profit of a bet, as well as your stake. The aim is to give you clarity of how much you need to stake, at what odds, in order to secure a certain payout.

There are plenty of variables within the calculator. You’re required to set:

  • Bet type – Choose the structure of your bet, from singles through to complex Lucky 15s and Goliaths
  • Odds type – Pick from fractional or decimal odds (depending on your preference)
  • Stake – This is the amount of money you’re willing to risk for the bet
  • Conditions – Select additional conditions if required (Each Way, Rule 4, Dead Heat).

We’ll explain more about these below.

If you choose an accumulator bet then you’ll be able to select and deselect additional selections to create your ideal bet. Learn more about accumulator bets in our guide here!

How to use a bet calculator

Using a bet calculator is really simple – even Paddy himself can use it! But it’s worth taking a moment to go through the details and understand what’s going on before you get started.

Remember, the idea of the bet calculator is to show how much you win based on your stake. To do this accurately, you need to fill in the right sections of the calculator as you work through it.

Start at the top and choose your bet type. For our example, we’ll use a double bet. Then select your odds type (go with the one you’re most comfortable with) and then enter your stake. After that, click if there are any conditions attached to the bet (we’ll get onto these later).

Now all you need to do is input the odds. For a double bet, you’ll need to put both odds in the box.

You’ll instantly see your winnings, which are split into ‘returns’ and ‘profit’. Your ‘returns’ is the full amount you receive from a winning bet including your original stake.

After that, you can head to Paddy Power and place your bet!

What is Rule 4?

Rule 4 is a recalculation of your bet if a big favourite pulls out before an event. It’s commonly used in horse racing betting, where a short-odds favourite might withdraw. If this is the case, the odds for all the other runners are, in theory, inaccurate. Rule 4 therefore applies and everyone’s odds are shortened relative to the rule’s formula.

You can apply Rule 4 to your bet calculator and see what your true return will be, should Rule 4 be enacted in your chosen event.

What is Each Way?

Each way is a betting option where you split your ‘win’ bet in half, so that 50% of the stake backs a win and 50% backs a ‘place’ (usually a second, third, or fourth-place finish). The aim is to clever your win bet in case your selection doesn’t quite make it. It’s most commonly found in horse racing betting. If your horse wins, you win both halves of the bet. If your horse places, you only win the ‘place’ half, which usually pays out at 1/4 or 1/5 the ‘win’ payout. Enter the EW price when selecting Each Way in the bet calculator to discover your payout.

What is Dead Heat?

A dead heat is when multiple selections win the same event. For example, three horses cross the line at exactly the same point. A dead heat is called if a single winner can’t be determined. When this happens, winnings are divided by the number of winners. So, a two-way dead heat results in 50% of winnings for each successful bet. For a three-way dead heat, it’s 33%.
