Phoenix Open

Tom Kim โ€“ Winner W/O Scottie Scheffler

Those who like to oppose Scottie Scheffler in PGA Tour betting markets had a relatively stress-free time at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, as some short-game struggles on Friday and Saturday eliminated him from contention.

So outstanding is the world number oneโ€™s approach game, though, that he still finished in the top 10. Betting against Scheffler to win in Scottsdale for the third time in four years requires some bravery, and his price to do so is not unreasonable.

Outright bets at those odds are not to everyoneโ€™s taste, though. There is plenty to like about Tom Kimโ€™s chances this week, so he appeals to be the primary selection for the Phoenix Open in the market, which excludes Scheffler.

The South Korean had started 2025 slowly, but a T7 at Pebble Beach was a return to the promising signs we saw from Kim towards the back end of 2024 when he was a runner-up three times.

Kimโ€™s game is well-suited to TPC Scottsdale, as he showed a year ago when recovering from a 74 on Thursday to make the cut and climb inside the top 20.

ย

Nick Taylor to win (each-way)

Nick Taylor, the 2023 runner-up and now the defending Phoenix Open champion, has turned his fortunes around in Scottsdale. On his eight previous visits, he had never finished better than T49.

It might be considered too simplistic to back Taylor to prevail again in Arizona. However, he has been tremendous with his irons in 2025, particularly in Hawaii, where he notched his fifth PGA Tour triumph.

What has been most impressive about Taylorโ€™s professional wins is how he copes with pressure. His last three successes have all come via a playoff, including one against Tommy Fleetwood at the Canadian Open in 2023, helping him become the first Canadian citizen to win their national Open since 1954.

Taylorโ€™s recent record at the Phoenix Open says a lot about his mental strength, too. After all, the Scottsdale crowd is the rowdiest on the calendar, and some players struggle with that. He may need to go toe-to-toe with Scheffler to win this event, but as tall an order as that is, itโ€™s worth an each-way play.

Rasmus Hojgaard โ€“ 1st Round Leader (each-way)

Having earned dual PGA TOUR membership for 2025, Rasmus Hojgaard acquitted himself well at Pebble Beach, carding a 65 on Thursday to end the first round just one shot off the lead.

The Daneโ€™s remaining rounds were pretty ordinary โ€“ mainly due to a cold putter โ€“ which has been the story of his last few months. The 23-year-old has struggled as of late to put together four rounds at the required level to contend for victories, which is why Iโ€™d rather side with him in the first-round leader market.

A five-time DP World Tour winner, Hojgaard will be looking to follow in his brother Nicolaiโ€™s footsteps and compete at the top end of PGA Tour events en route to, hopefully for him, a spot in Luke Donaldโ€™s Ryder Cup team.

Qatar Masters

Ricardo Gouveia to win (each-way)

He has gone under the radar at the beginning of 2025, but Ricardo Gouveiaโ€™s excellent tee-to-green game has seen him become one of the most consistent players on the DP World Tour through this Middle East swing.

The Portuguese found something at the end of a torrid 2024 when he came third at the Korea Championship, and he has carried that momentum into this year with form figures of 21-36-14.

Those results arenโ€™t groundbreaking, but this weaker field allows Gouveia to turn respectable outings into lucrative ones. In Bahrain, he delivered his best driving performance since October. His approach play has been faultless during that time, so the base is there for a continued upward trend.
