Odds-on means the profit you make from a bet is smaller than your stake. It derives from the idea that the bookmaker is ‘betting on’ an outcome, so they’re unwilling to fork out much if you, the punter, win the bet. A horse that is 1/4 to win is odds-on. The opposite to odds-on is odds-against.
